Question 1

Why is my AC running but not cooling the house in Arizona?

Accepted Answer

Common causes include a dirty air filter, a frozen evaporator coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failing capacitor, or an outdoor condenser clogged with dust. In Arizona heat, small problems show up fast because the system runs almost nonstop. Check that the thermostat is set to cool and the filter is clean, then turn the system off if the coil looks iced. Elite Pro Services can diagnose the cause and explain your options.

Question 2

How do I know if my AC capacitor is going bad?

Accepted Answer

Warning signs include an outdoor unit that hums but the fan will not spin, a system that struggles to start, or cooling that cuts in and out on hot afternoons. Capacitors hold a stored electrical charge even with power off, so testing or replacing one is a job for a trained technician, not a DIY project. Elite Pro Services can test the part safely and replace it if needed.

Question 3

What factors affect the cost of a new AC system in Arizona?

Accepted Answer

Price depends on system size in tons, efficiency rating, whether you choose a split system or packaged unit, ductwork condition, electrical upgrades, thermostat choice, roof or attic access, and permit requirements. A proper load calculation keeps you from paying for more or less capacity than the home needs. Elite Pro Services can walk your home, explain each factor, and give you a written quote.

Question 4

How long should an air conditioner last in the Phoenix area?

Accepted Answer

Lifespan varies with installation quality, maintenance, sun exposure, dust, and how hard the system works through long summers. Desert heat puts more run hours on equipment than milder climates, so regular maintenance matters. Age alone is not the only signal; repair frequency, rising power bills, and comfort problems all factor in. Elite Pro Services can inspect your system and give an honest repair-or-replace opinion.

Question 5

Should I repair or replace my AC?

Accepted Answer

Weigh the age of the system, how often it has needed repairs, the cost of the current repair compared with the system’s value, refrigerant type, energy bills, and whether rooms stay comfortable. A technician should explain the findings in plain terms rather than pressure you either way. Elite Pro Services provides a clear diagnosis so you can decide what makes sense for your home and budget.

Question 6

Why is my AC blowing warm air?

Accepted Answer

Warm air can come from a tripped breaker on the outdoor unit, a failed capacitor or contactor, low refrigerant, a dirty condenser coil, or a thermostat set to fan or heat. First confirm the thermostat settings and replace a dirty filter. Do not open electrical panels on the unit. If the problem continues, Elite Pro Services can send a licensed HVAC technician to find and fix the cause.

Question 7

Why is there ice on my AC lines or coil?

Accepted Answer

Ice usually means restricted airflow or low refrigerant. A clogged filter, closed vents, a failing blower motor, or a refrigerant leak can all drop the coil temperature below freezing. Turn the cooling off and run only the fan to help it thaw, and do not chip the ice away. Once thawed, a technician should find the root cause. Elite Pro Services can inspect airflow and refrigerant levels.

Question 8

How often should I change my AC filter in Arizona?

Accepted Answer

Many Arizona homes need filter changes more often than the package suggests because of dust, pets, monsoon storms, and long cooling seasons. Checking the filter monthly during summer is a practical habit; replace it whenever it looks gray or clogged. Use the size listed on the existing filter frame. If you are unsure which filter fits your system, Elite Pro Services can show you during a maintenance visit.

Question 9

What does an AC tune-up include?

Accepted Answer

A typical tune-up includes checking refrigerant pressures, cleaning or inspecting the condenser coil, testing capacitors and contactors, measuring electrical draw, checking the blower and drain line, inspecting the thermostat, and confirming temperature drop across the coil. The goal is catching small problems before they become breakdowns in peak heat. Ask Elite Pro Services what its maintenance visit covers for your specific system.

Question 10

When is the right time to schedule AC maintenance in Arizona?

Accepted Answer

Spring is ideal, before daytime highs climb and service calendars fill up. Many homeowners also schedule a fall check for heating. Because Arizona cooling seasons are long, some systems benefit from more frequent attention, especially in dusty areas or homes with pets. Booking early helps you avoid waiting during a heat wave. Elite Pro Services schedules residential and commercial maintenance across the East Valley.

Question 11

How should I prepare my AC for an Arizona summer?

Accepted Answer

Schedule a professional tune-up in spring before temperatures climb. Replace the air filter, clear debris from around the outdoor unit, check that vents are open and unblocked, and test the thermostat. A technician can check refrigerant levels, clean the coil, and catch worn parts before they fail in peak heat. Elite Pro Services offers pre-season maintenance across the East Valley.

Question 12

What should I do if my AC fails during an Arizona heat wave?

Accepted Answer

Call a licensed HVAC company immediately. While waiting, close blinds and curtains on sun-facing windows, move to the lowest floor of the home where it is cooler, stay hydrated, and use fans to move air. Avoid using the oven. If indoor temperatures become dangerous, go to a cooling center or a neighbor’s home. Elite Pro Services is open 24/7 for emergency AC service across the East Valley.

Question 13

How do monsoon storms affect my HVAC system?

Accepted Answer

Monsoon dust and debris can clog condenser coils and air filters faster than normal, reducing airflow and efficiency. High humidity during monsoon season can also stress the system and promote mold growth in drain pans and ducts. After a major dust storm, check and replace the filter and clear debris from around the outdoor unit. Elite Pro Services can inspect and clean your system after storm season.

Question 14

Why does my AC struggle more in extreme heat?

Accepted Answer

When outdoor temperatures exceed the design conditions the system was sized for, the equipment has to work harder and longer to maintain the set temperature. Dirty coils, low refrigerant, or an undersized system make this worse. The result is higher energy bills, longer run times, and faster wear. Regular maintenance helps the system perform as well as possible even in extreme heat. Elite Pro Services can assess your system’s capacity.

Question 15

Is it normal for my AC to run all day in Arizona summer?

Accepted Answer

During peak summer heat, it is common for systems to run for long stretches or nearly continuously. That is different from a system that runs constantly but cannot reach the set temperature, which signals a problem. If your home stays comfortable and energy bills are in a normal range for the season, extended run times may simply reflect the climate. Elite Pro Services can evaluate whether your system is performing correctly.
